Hasbunallahu Wa Ni'mal Wakeel benefits

“Sufficient for us is Allah, and (He is) the best disposer of affairs.”

Significance of the Ayat/Dua

Hasbunallahu Wa Ni’mal Wakeel is a supplication (prayer) that Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S) made while he was being thrown to fire. As mentioned in the Book Riyadh Al Saliheen; Hazrat Ibn ‘Abbas (R.A) has narrated;

When Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) was thrown into the fire, he said: “Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and, He is the Best Disposer of affairs”.

Riyad as-Salihin 76 (Al-Bukhari)

Moreover, our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also made this dua when a great army of pagans gathered against him.

According to Riyad as-Salihin (the reference mentioned above);

The messenger of Allah, Muhammad (ﷺ) was told; “A great army of the pagans had gathered against him, so fear them”. But this (warning) only increased him and the Muslims in Faith and they said: “Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)”.

Al-Bukhari

Furthermore, this dua is also a part of the Qur’anic verse. In the Holy Book, we find this verse in Surah Al Imran, verse # 173.

Those to whom people [i.e., hypocrites] said, “Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.” But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs.”

Surah Al Imran, verse # 173

The benefits of this prayer (حسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل) are prominent in numerous Ahadees. Like those mentioned above, it is evident that we should make this prayer during times of fear and helplessness.

When we see things turning against us. When we are powerless to overwhelm them and to change them in our favor; or when we are faced with a hostile enemy; this prayer (as made by the two Prophets) can save us from what seems to be an impending disaster.

Hence, we should recite this dua with firm faith and belief in Allah Almighty. Indeed, Allah alone is sufficient for us.

The Prophet (PBUH) himself told his companion to seek comfort by reciting this prayer. As we can see a Hadees in the book Riyad As-Salihin,

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was recorded saying to a man who asked: “How can I feel at ease when the Angel of the Trumpet, (Israfil, one of the four arc angels) has put his lips to the Trumpet and is waiting for the order to blow it”.

He (ﷺ) perceived as if this had shocked his Companions, so he (ﷺ) told them to seek comfort through reciting: “Hasbunallah wa ni’mal-Wakeel”
