Benefits of Reciting Surah Fatiha

When Surah Fatiha was revealed, Satan cried. Definitely, there is something very special in this Surah of the Qur’an that made Iblees cry loudly. (Ref. IBN KATHIR IN AL BIDAYAH WAN NIHAYAH, VOLUME 2, PI66)

Moreover, the recitation of Surah Fatiha is made compulsory in all the prayers. Without Surah Fatiha, Salat (Namaz) stands incomplete and invalid.

Let’s dig out the benefits one acquires by reciting Surah Al Fatiha.

  • Surah Fatiha Cures Illness

Surah Fatiha cures diseases and illnesses. A patient who is suffering from spiritual and physical diseases should recite Surah Fatiha to himself.

As Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an;

وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

“We send down in the Quran that which is a cure and mercy for the faithful.”

  • Surah Al-Fatiha Cures And Protects From Magic and Evil Eye

The recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha, Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, Surah An-Nas, and Durood Sharif is best to ward off the evil eye, black magic, or any other illness and disease.

Any Ruqyah that is performed to cast off black magic or evil eye must contain Surah Al Fatiha. This Surah is also one of the most repeated verses of the Qur’an in treating magic.

  • Ruqyah for Snake or Scorpion’s Poison

Surah Fatiha is an antidote for the bite of a poisonous snake or scorpion. Let’s corroborate it with a Hadees.

Some of the companions of the Prophet (PBUH) came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs. That tribe did not entertain them. While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion).

They said, (to the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) ), “Have you got any medicine with you or anybody who can treat with Ruqya?” The Prophet’s companions said, “You refuse to entertain us, so we will not treat (your chief) unless you pay us for it.” So they agreed to pay them for a flock of sheep.

One of them (the Prophet’s companions) started reciting Surat-al-Fatiha and gathering his saliva and spitting it (at the snake bite). The patient got cured and his people presented the sheep to them, but they said, “We will not take it unless we ask the Prophet (whether it is lawful).”

When they asked him, he smiled and said, “How do you know that Surat-al-Fatiha is a Ruqya? Take it (flock of sheep) and assign a share for me.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 5736

To conclude, these were the most prominent benefits of Surah Fatiha. There are numerous other benefits of this Surah as well.

For example, its recitation invokes Allah’s blessings and mercy. We glorify Allah and make dua to Him to guide us to the right path.

The Surah is concise and easy to remember and recite. Yet, it is the most powerful and impactful. One gets rid of poverty, fears, and pains by reciting Al Fatiha.
